Action Launcher Pro version 1.5 puts Android widgets just a swipe away (video)

Action Launcher Pro version 1.5 puts Android widgets just a swipe away (video)

Android launchers cross our desks every so often but only a handful catch our eye. Action Launcher Pro is the latest to strike our fancy thanks to its quick and compact widget solution dubbed Shutters. With the freshly added feature, users can open up widgets by simply giving app icons a vertical swipe. Version 1.5 also packs a number of improvements, including support for 10-inch tablets and increased stability. Devices running Android 4.0.3 or newer will be able to take the launcher for a spin, but Shutters is a Jelly Bean-only affair thanks to API limitations. Head past the break to catch the software in action, or click the second source link to pick it up for $ 3.99.

Evernote for Android gets new offline notebooks, widgets and more

Evernote for Android gets new offline notebooks, widgets and more

Evernote has already revamped a few of its offerings this month, and it’s now brought some changes to its Android app as well. That includes new offline notebooks for premium subscribers that’ll let you download multiple notebooks in one shot, a pared down note editor toolbar, retooled Action Bars for Android tablets and a new resizable Grid Widget for your homescreen. Not surprisingly, Evernote also says that the update includes a slew of other fixes and tweaks that promise to make the app “faster and more reliable,” and it’s promising that there’s still “lots more to come.” You can find the updated app in the Google Play store at the link below.

Chameleon Android launcher hits version 1.1, adds support for native widgets

Chameleon Android launcher hits version 11, adds support for native widgets

It’s not every day that we cover launchers of any kind, but when we heard the Kickstarter-funded Chameleon had been updated to version 1.1, we thought those of you who have supported the project since its early days would be happy to hear the news. And while the refresh itself doesn’t bring many changes, it does include the long-awaited support for stock Android widgets — not to mention a few welcomed improvements to the current Twitter, Google Calendar and YouTube homescreen-living apparatuses. Naturally, these will go hand to hand with those tweaks announced less than a month ago in version 1.0 of the tablet launcher. There’s a video courtesy of Chameleon situated down below — in case you’re interested in seeing what all the fuss is about before you download the Android commodities.

Livefyre Goes Beyond Comments with StreamHub — Liveblogging, Live Chatting, Social Widgets, And More

livefyre logoLivefyre is best known as a commenting system, but it’s launching a new product today for large brands and publishers called StreamHub — comments are part of StreamHub, but just one part.

More iOS 6 Features: New Privacy Settings, Share Widgets, Revamped Store Apps & More

ios-6-logoYesterday, Apple revealed the latest version of its iOS operating system, iOS 6, which promises over 200 new features. But now folks are uncovering a few more gems, as screenshots and videos from developer builds of iOS 6 leak into the wild. Below are some of the more minor (but still notable) features we’ve found.

FB Turns Like Buttons, Comments, Auto-Sharing Into WordPress Widgets For Easy Faceblogging

Facebook WordPressFacebook continues its march across the Internet with the release of its Like button, recommendation feed, comments box and other social plugins as WordPress.org and WordPress VIP widgets. There’s also new one-click WordPress admin options like auto-sharing what users read and auto-publishing blog posts as links from Facebook Pages and author accounts.

The idea is that more blogs will integrate with Facebook now that adding social functionality is as easy as checking a box rather than writing code. Facebook hopes bonus referral traffic will lure in authors, allow it to suck more content into the news feed, and stamp its name everywhere.

Evernote for Android adds speech-to-text and custom widgets in latest update

Image

If you’ve been putting Evernote through its paces on your Android device, a new update adds a few more bells and whistles. First, the outfit has integrated speech-to-text transcription to go alongside its existing audio notes feature. Don’t worry, the original audio is also attached to each note and the new tool can be disabled for sound-only reminders. This feature only works with Android 4.0 tech and “certain other devices” though.

Are those standard widgets just not doing the trick? An update to the Evernote Widget app should do the trick. Now, you can customize color, buttons and exactly which notes appear in the large widget. There’s also a single function widget that rests on the home screen just like a regular ol’ app icon does. Finally, a new Quick Snapshot function enables blazing fast captures that are added to your account and automatically titled. Catch all that? Good. Hit the source link below for all the details before hoping over to Google Play to download the goods.
