Nokia Lumia teaser asks ‘what can the matter be?’, puts Malaysians on edge (video)

Nokia Lumia ad asks 'what can the matter be', puts Malaysians on edge

Flickering hospital lights. A man going ballistic in a padded cell. A hooded ghoul. These are the images Nokia Malaysia wants to put into our heads in the run-up to a mysterious Lumia-related launch coming on April 25th. That date has also been linked to Verizon’s launch of the Lumia 928, but we’re not sure how that might be relevant. Alternatively, it could be a countdown to the Malaysian launch of the Lumia 720 or Lumia 520. The thing is, we’re intimately familiar with both those handsets and neither can be described as even remotely spooky. Unless it’s another Batman Edition?

Update: The video on Nokia’s official YouTube channel has been pulled. We’ve added a different embed in the hope of preserving this curious piece of marketing for future generations.

Ubuntu teaser counts down to January 2nd launch, hints at touch-based OS

Ubuntu teaser counts down to January 2nd launch, hints at touchbased OS

“So close, you can almost touch it.” The Ubuntu home page is currently dominated by a banner with that teaser, along with a clock counting down to 8AM ET on Wednesday, January 2nd. Our guess is that the pre-CES announcement may focus on mobile, with a touch-friendly interface possibly on the horizon. During a Slashdot Q&A in December, Canonical founder Mark Shuttleworth clued readers in on the company’s plans to bring the OS to mobile devices, including smartphones and tablets, as part of a strategy to familiarize desktop users with the Linux-based operating system. While this week’s announcement may fall in line with that objective, it’s likely to be just one part of the equation, with 14.04 LTS not set to launch until April 2014 at the earliest. Either way, we have more than a day to go before Ubuntu’s mystery is unveiled, so tune your browser to the source link below to join in on the countdown fun.

Nokia invites you to stay tuned, offers augmented reality teaser video

With just a day to go, Nokia has pushed out another brief teaser, this time pointing towards more map-based contextual functionality. ASUS PadFone gets benchmarked: a mere teaser of what’s to come

Image

It was only last week that we learned of the varied battery life of ASUS’ phone that would be a tablet that would be a laptop. Now, a further trickle of its performance might has passed our way, giving us insight into the real-world chops of its dual-core S4 processor and companion Adreno 225 GPU. The tests, carried out by the fine folks over at Netbooknews, highlight the device’s strengths across a swath of the usual benchmarks, putting it just below AT&T’s One X variant in Quadrant with a score of 5,057 and Sunspider at 1,917ms. The company’s hybrid did, however, manage to eke out a victory against its similarly CPU-equipped smartphone rival in Vellamo, as well as NenaMark 1 and 2, coming in at 2,554 and 60.4fps / 60.5fps, respectively. We’ll have our own comprehensive review of the PadFone ready for your eyes in the days to come, but for now, sate your appetites with these various nuggets.

Alleged ASUS teaser wants us to 'Experience the Infinity,' fails to explain how

This isn’t the first time a mysterious bit of video has come our way with the promise of something new and fabulous from ASUS. The latest such clip comes from a third party, so take it with a hefty pinch of Morton’s. It shows some slow motion footage of a drop of water falling into a bigger body of H2O, then a message emerges from the resulting concentric waves telling us to “Experience the Infinity.” Whatever that means, it’ll be “coming soon” — next week, apparently, as the video finishes up touting Milano Design Week, which starts on April 17th. Is the video legit? Will some fabulous new device make its mark in Milan? We’ve no idea, but it certainly has a style similar to other teasers we’ve seen from the Taiwanese firm. You can make up your own mind once you’ve watched the vid after the break.
