Samsung Galaxy Core is real: low-end specs with a 4.3-inch WVGA display, option for dual-SIM

Image

Whenever a Samsung flagship arrives, it’s never long before we see a fleet of lower-spec handsets swimming in its wake. The latest Remora to come out from the shadow of its bigger brother (and the rumor mill) is the Galaxy Core, a 4.3-inch handset offering a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB RAM, 8GB internal storage and a microSD slot. Running Touchwiz-infused Jelly Bean, the phone has a 5-megapixel rear camera with an LED flash and a VGA front-facer for the vain amongst you. Users will also be getting some of the more fancy Galaxy-style software features like Motion UI, Smart Stay, Smart Alert and S Voice. Of course, a phone is nothing without a screen, and here your eyes will be caressing a 4.3-inch WVGA (480 x 800) display — but while you may not be thrilled at a low pixel count, at least there’s the option for single SIM (available in July) or dual-SIM (from May) models for carrier swappers.

More Google Glass Specs Revealed As Android Tinkerers Look For Ways To Root It

glasscloseupGoogle felt it appropriate to highlight some of Glass’ specs earlier this week, but there’s much more to the company’s wearable display than just the 5 megapixel camera and its 16GB of internal storage. In case you were hankering for a taste of what else makes Google Glass tick, Android developer (and Glass Explorer) Jay Lee spent some time tinkering with his preview unit and managed to figure out what kind of hardware it has under the proverbial hood.

HTC Desire L revealed in Taiwan 43inch display, lowend specs, nostalgic branding

Despite all of HTC’s talk about unified branding in the West, the company’s model names are still diverse when looked at from a planet-wide perspective. This newest phone, the Desire L, appears to be a Taiwan-destined version of China’s One SU, with the same low-end specs — including a 4.3-inch 800 x 480 SLCD2 display, dual-core 1GHz processor and 5MP camera — but a distinctly pre-One moniker. It’s different strokes for different folks, just as with the Butterfly and Droid DNA — though only a chosen few can boast the added distinction of coming in pink.

Google Glass tech specs unveiled

Google has released the tech specs for its Google Glasses after shipping its first batch to developers today. So without further ado, here’s what you need to know.

FOX News

Google Glass Specs Hit the Web

Nerval’s Lobster writes “Google has issued the specifications for its spectacles. The search-engine giant’s Google Glass, an augmented-reality headset that allows wearers to view information on a tiny screen embedded in one of the lenses, features a camera capable of snapping 5-megapixel photos and 720p video. That aforementioned screen, in the words of Google’s just-released specs sheet, “is the equivalent of a 25-inch high definition screen from eight feet away.” Google Glass is compatible with any Bluetooth-capable phone. Its MyGlass app, which enables SMS messaging and GPS, requires a companion device running Android 4.0.3 (the “Ice Cream Sandwich” build) or higher. Google claims the battery will provide a “full day of typical use,” although the company warned in the specs sheet that certain functions—most notably video recording and Hangouts—could drain the battery faster. Despite those neat features, Google Glass also raises some thorny questions about surveillance culture, and whether people really want whole crowds recording every moment of our collective lives. But those are the sort of conundrums that will only become more clear when Google Glass is actually released sometime later this year.”

Sony: PS4′s main selling point will be ‘new playing options, not improved hardware specs’

As Sony Computer Entertainment warms up its blue lighting and double-checks its playlist for February 20th, one unnamed SCE official says that the PlayStation 4 will act as more of a home entertainment hub than what we’ve seen in the past. They added, according to the Nikkei, that the main selling point won’t be the rumored eight-core AMD64 CPU or other hardware specs, but how it opens up new styles of play — something Nintendo is also focusing on. Sony is going to push the new console as a home entertainment “nerve center,” with a focus on the hardware’s ability to connect and share to mobile devices — the rival that’s pulling gamers away from traditional consoles. No discussion on any Gakai-powered cloud gaming just yet, but following its unveiling later this month, the report states that the new PlayStation should launch before the end of the year. A bit of a shame, then, that it’s still only February.

LG Optimus Vu II specs officially unveiled: new CPU, IR, stylus and ‘One Key’ accessory

LG Optimus Vu II specs officially unveiled new CPU, IR, stylus and 'One Key' accessory

Whether or not there’s a 5-inch 4:3 aspect ratio spot in the world to fit LG’s Optimus Vu is still up for debate, but the company is pressing on and has now officially revealed specs for its follow up, the Optimus Vu II. Matching the specs leaked previously the CPU is a Qualcomm MSM8960 that’s a newer design than the previous one, but is still a dual-core chip clocked at 1.5GHz. The RAM has been doubled to 2GB, the battery is just a hair larger at 2,150mAh and it will come with Android 4.0 out of the box plus that integrated IR blaster and QRemote software to control your home theater. The VoLTE capability listed in the leak is here and accounted for, as well as a Rubberdium Pen 2.0 stylus with a thinner, more precise nub. One thing we hadn’t heard about is its optional “One Key” accessory, a waterproof fob intended for your key ring that can be pressed to make your phone beep loudly if you need to find it, and light up blue or red to alert you when there are messages or if it has finished charging. The Optimus Vu II is priced at 966,900 won ($ 864) in Korea, though we’ll have to wait for a US announcement to have any idea how much it will cost when it ships here.

LG Optimus Vu II specs leak out: double the RAM of the original, few other changes

DNP Optimus Vu II

Having put the phat back in phablet with its original 4:3 aspect ratio, 5-inch Optimus Vu, LG seems bent on releasing a successor already, the Optimus Vu II, according to a leak from Korean blog Bad IT Tong. The new Galaxy Note II challenger would carry the same form factor and 1080 x 768 IPS screen as the current Vu model, while doubling the RAM to 2GB, bumping the Qualcomm processor to an 8960 1.5GHz dual-core model (not the international quad-core version) and keeping the LTE radio from its US Intuition variant. It would come out of the box with Android 4.0, an 8-megapixel rear shooter, 32GB of storage and a 2080 mAh battery, judging by the leaked image above — all specs we’ve seen before. There’s no word yet on US pricing, availability, a stylus or an intriguing universal remote app teased by LG, but recent purchasers of the original Optimus Vu might be feeling left in a technology wake.

The $ 49 Cubieboard for developers is heavy on specs, light on the wallet

You’ve already got plenty of options if you’re in the market for a developer board, but it might be worth taking a look at the new $ 49 Cubieboard, which packs quite the specs given its price point. The board hosts a 1GHz AllWinner A10 Cortex A8 CPU with Mali-400 GPU, 1GB of RAM and 4 gigs of onboard storage. For ins and outs, you’re looking at 1080p HDMI, Ethernet, one MultiMediaCard (MMC) slot, a SATA port, two USB hosts, an IR sensor and 96 extender pins for solder junkies. Cubieboard’s Wiki page lists an additional MMC slot and USB OTG, but as this doesn’t check out in the pictures, we assume they’ve either been scrapped, or they’ll be added on for later production runs. As you would expect, several versions of Linux and Android are supported by the Raspberry Pi bully, which is expected to start shipping to select developers sometime this week. There’s no word on when it may be available for general consumption, but by then you’ll hopefully have a better product anyway — if the pros have done their job, that is.

Motorola RAZR M 4G LTE pics and specs revealed: 4.3-inch qHD display, ICS, dual-core

Motorola RAZR M pics and specs revealed

We’ve been hearing about the Motorola XT907 — an LTE device bound for Verizon — for quite some time now, but we just got our hands on a full set of specs and even a few pics to go along with it. Let’s get started: the Droid RAZR M 4G LTE, as Big Red is planning to call it, will sport a 4.3-inch qHD (960 x 540) Super AMOLED Advanced display — this will likely be the same ColorBoost panel we recently saw on Sprint’s Photon Q — as well as a dual-core MSM8960 Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB RAM, 8MP rear camera capable of taking 1080p video, a 3MP (yes, three) front-facing shooter, full GSM / UMTS / HSPA+ global roaming and 8GB internal storage with microSD support. Additionally, the RAZR M will offer NFC, Android 4.0 with a virtual row of navigation keys (much like the Atrix HD and Photon Q) and will weigh 4.44 ounces. Gorilla Glass 2 protects the display from scratches, while the back offers the same kind of Kevlar seen on the Droid RAZR and RAZR Maxx. So that takes care of the mystery behind this particular smartphone, and it’s quite likely we’ll be getting some quality hands-on time with it alongside the RAZR HD at Moto’s September 5th event. Check out the goods in the gallery below.

Leaked Lenovo Windows 8 ThinkPad Tablet 2 specs tip NFC, keyboard dock, uninspired name

Back in June at Computex, we got to spend a little quality time with Lenovo’s forthcoming Windows 8 tablet — not too long after, the FCC got to play around a similarly specked device, as well. Now, courtesy of some leaked info, we’re seeing a slate from the company that looks awfully familiar. According to the spec sheet, which compares the product head-to-head with Apple’s iPad, the Windows 8 ThinkPad Tablet 2 will feature a 10.1-inch 1,366 x 768 IPS display, in excess of 10 hours of battery life and two cameras, including an eight megapixel one on the rear. Also on board is NFC and a fingerprint reader, all packed into a 9.8mm body. Oh, and in keeping with the Lenovo’s businessy focus, we’ve also got a glimpse of a very ThinkPad-looking keyboard dock, complete with the customary pointing stick. Check that out after the break.

Fry’s stocks unlocked Nokia N9, is slightly misinformed about its specs

Image

Sure, Nokia’s Lumia 900 and 808 PureView may have garnered much of the spotlight lately, but lest we forgot about its flagship MeeGo handset. If you’ve been anxiously hoping to somehow score an unlocked N9 in the US sans gray-market importers, apparently Fry’s Electronics has you covered. Phone News spotted a listing for the phone in the store’s latest weekly ad — although upon closer inspection, it appears that the retailer isn’t too sure about its actual specs. Aside from describing the 3.9-inch slab of polycarbonate as a 4.3-inch device, it’s also flubbed on the OS, calling it “Mego.” Perhaps the most interesting error, however, is that the handset’s ClearBlack AMOLED display is listed as Super AMOLED — Samsung’s competing technology. Assuming these are merely copy errors, you’ll be able to pick one up for a spendy $ 600. Hit up the source link below to view the full ad.

BBC News Online adapts mobile site to smartphone demands, doesn’t discriminate against specs

Image

Worried what your smartphone says about you? The Beeb isn’t. That venerable British broadcasting institution is adopting a “four screens” strategy, with the overarching goal of creating a mobile news site that embraces devices of all specs, sizes and prices. Known as ‘responsive design,’ the company’s back end will reportedly tackle the task of figuring out the specific demands of your phone or tablet and then deliver a touch-screen optimized site suited to your unit’s particular profile. The changes, set to affect about 26 percent of BBC News Online’s traffic, haven’t been given a firm scheduling as of yet, with a tentative rollout on track to hit simpler phones first, while the more robust features, reserved for more capable tech, set to come later. According to Head of Product, Chris Russell, it’s all part of a “wider ‘under the bonnet’ project” aimed at spreading the News division’s reach to all corners, especially those less fortunate areas where internet access can “be crucially important to their lives.” Hit up the source below to read Russell’s full take on this move towards digital universality.

LG myTouch phones listed as ‘coming soon’ to T-Mobile with suspect specs

LG myTouch and myTouch Q

Remember that pair of myTouch-branded LG phones that made a brief appearance on YouTube back in September? Well they’re up on T-Mobile’s site and listed as “coming soon.” The myTouch and myTouch Q, in black and gray respectively, are sitting pretty with a pair of galleries showing of their sizable bezels and inoffensive (if bulky) curves. There are also some specs listed, but they’re a tad suspect and may simply be a placeholder. In particular the Q being listed as having a QWERTY pad that is 92-percent the size of a laptop keyboard had us raising an eyebrow. Both are also listed as sporting 42Mbps 4G connections, which contradicts earlier leaks that pegged these handsets as mid-range 3G devices. Motorola Xoom 2 evidence mounts — new photos, rumored specs and a Media Edition?

Talk of a younger, slimmer Motorola Xoom just keeps on coming. A helpful tipster is adding fuel to the rumors of a Xoom 2 with these shots of a similar, but not exactly identical Motorola tablet. When compared to the images we saw yesterday, this unnamed Android 3.2 slate looks a tad less polished in the rear and seems to favor a portrait format, with the camera resting up top. What’s more, our source says the slab appears to be smaller than what we’ve already seen, which could line up with a report from This Is My Next, pegging a Xoom 2 Media Edition. That device is rumored to have an 8.2-inch HD IPS display and weigh .95 pounds. It is apparently being billed as an “e-reader replacement,” and comes with an onboard IR remote and subwoofer. In further Xoom 2 news, TIMN is saying the classic version will measure 9mm thick, pack a 1.2GHz processor, 1GB RAM, and enable 1080p video recording. If all of that isn’t enough to satisfy your Motorola-tablet craving, we’ve got a gallery of photos below.
