VEVO’s New iPad App Adds Personalized Playlists, Social Sharing & Continuous Playback

iPad Retina GUI PSDEarlier this year, VEVO unveiled a huge new redesign, adding continusous playback and social features designed to get more people engaged when watching its music videos. And while it made that experience available on its website and on its Xbox Live app, there was one device clearly missing — the iPad. Well, it just released an updated version of its iPad app, making a lot of the same features available, as well as a few more that have not yet made it to other platforms.

I got a chance to get a walkthrough of the app from VEVO SVP of Product Michael Cerda in the company’s brand-new San Francisco development office today — more on that later — and the thing is pretty slick. The first thing that you’ll notice when you open the app is a rotating carousel of featured artists that, when clicked, brings you directly to videos by those artists.

The New VEVO: Music Video Giant Adds Personalization, Facebook Playlists & Continuous Play

Screen shot 2012-03-08 at 6.04.15 PMVEVO launched officially to the world in December 2009, and in the same month became the most visited music site in the U.S. That was just over two years ago, and today VEVO has grown to be the second largest web video property behind YouTube, with some 51.5 million unique viewers tuning in to VEVO’s content in January, according to comScore.

Last week, news started to trickle out in the form of emails to VEVO users from management that, going forward, VEVO users would begin logging into the site exclusively through Facebook. The emails included news that a “new VEVO is coming,” which is confirmed today, as VEVO is officially announcing the biggest redesign to its music video platform experience since launching two years ago.

Spotify hits 2.5 million paying subscribers, Yacht Rock playlists reach an all-time high

It may not yet take into account users from certain countries that may be adjacent to certain other countries, but Spotify announced today that it now counts 2.5 million paying subscribers for its music service. Of course, that’s just a part of the total number of registered users (paying or otherwise), which now stands at around 10 million according to the most recent information from the company. What’s next for the service? Spotify is promising to tell us that next week.
