Call of Duty: Ghosts is this year’s CoD entry, headed to 360, PS3, Wii U, PC and next-gen consoles on November 6

Like Punxsutawney Phil’s shadowgazing, we can rightfully expect a new Call of Duty game to be announced annually and available at the holidays. Also like our groundhog friend, the only annual questions we must ask are in the details — what is this year’s Call of Duty about, and who’s making it? It turns out that this year’s Duty development, unsurprisingly, falls on Infinity Ward’s shoulders — the folks who created the much lauded Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare — and it’s named “Call of Duty: Ghosts.” It’s arriving on a whole mess of platforms this November 6th, including Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U, and PC, but also PlayStation 4 and the next Xbox — given that we don’t know release dates for the PlayStation 4 and the next Xbox, it stands to reason that Ghosts could arrive on a different date for those platforms. It’s also likely we’ll see a handheld version on Nintendo’s 3DS made by someone other than Infinity Ward, but we’ve got no direct word on that just yet.
The “Ghosts” in the title references … well, we’re not entirely sure. Previous CoD games featured a character named “Ghost” fairly prominently, though the plurality indicates a game about more than one individual. We’re holding out hope that the often overserious, dramatic tone of previous CoD games is being completely thrown out in favor of a goofy game about hunting ghosts. The bullets pass right through their ethereal form! Run for your life!

Digital Sports Report: Perform Overtakes ESPN In Online Video Viewership, Reaching 24.5M Uniques In November
Sports is in the process of becoming the next big market to be transformed by the digital revolution, as fans are increasingly turning to mobile devices and second, third and fourth screens to consume sports content. In August, Turner bought sports blogging and content platform Bleacher Report for an estimated $ 200. More recently, Yahoo and NBC forged a digital sports partnership in the hopes of becoming the largest sports web property in the U.S., and permanently stealing that spot from ESPN.

Long November: Google Left December Out Of Its Date Picker In Android Jelly Bean OS 4.2
There are bugs, and there are pretty embarrassing and ridiculous mess-ups. This one was is a screwup straight from Mountain View, and it’s a very real problem. If you’re trying to add your friend’s birthday to their contact entry, and you use an Android device with Jelly Bean 4.2, and they’re born in December…you’re crap out of luck, because Google decided to leave December out completely. For all the years.
Oops. The issue was apparently reported two days ago and we might be getting Android Jelly Bean 4.2.1 before we know it. Because, well, December is indeed coming, whether Google wants it to or not.

Verizon confirms Droid DNA on its Droid Does portal, promises ‘unboxing’ on November 19th
Last we checked, there are about six days between Verizon / HTC’s press event in New York City and November 19th. Which, by most counts, should be just enough time for the two companies to properly announce a phone, get it out to sales channels, and start moving ‘em into the hands of consumers. HTC’s Droid DNA has been leaked to death at this point, but a new mention of the product on VZW’s ‘Droid Does’ portal all but confirms the true nature of Tuesday’s event. For those willing to wait until November 19th, the carrier’s promising an internet unboxing through its Google+ page — for those who tune into our site, we’ll get you one much sooner. Hit up the source if you’re intrigued by intrigue, but don’t go poking around for pricing or confirmed specifications.

Microsoft’s November security updates include critical Windows 8 and RT patches
Microsoft recently issued its “Security Bulletin Advance Notification” for this month, detailing which operating systems and software will be updated on November 13th. While many products are being addressed, including Office for Mac, newly released Windows 8 and RT are the most notable entries on the list. The first patches since they hit the market will fix “critical” issues which open them up to “remote code execution.” Microsoft hasn’t gone into specifics (obviously), but you can register for a webcast being held on the 14th (see source link) should you want enlightening. If you thought your fresh machine or slate was flawless, we’re afraid to say it’s just another member of the ‘Patch Tuesday’ club.

Sprint adding Spotify Premium to carrier billing for Android customers starting November 11th
A few months back Sprint’s Android customers gained the option to charge Google Play purchases to their monthly wireless bill. In an effort to keep the carrier billing party going, the Now Network will soon be adding this option for Spotify Premium customers. An anonymous tipster has shared with us that starting on November 11th, Sprint’s Android clientele will be able to add the music streaming service’s $ 10 monthly charge to their bill. While we’re sure that some customers will take advantage of this new option, we can’t help but long for the good old days when people could bill a new phone to their account. Ah, Sprint giveth and taketh away.

Google Play Movies, Music reach Australia, Canada and parts of Europe on November 13th
Google’s long-awaited offering of Google Play Movies and Music on Google TV may have answered a longstanding demand for streaming access from some viewers, but it still left many of those outside of the US turning to alternatives. The company is closing that open loop with plans to take the media strategy global. Australia, Canada, France, Germany and the UK will all get similar streaming video options on their Google TV hubs as of November 13th; while content will undoubtedly vary, the gesture once more puts the international stores on roughly the same level as their American counterpart. The only debate left likely centers on what movie to rent for celebrating the occasion.

Halo 4
After more than a decade the Halo series is still going strong, although development has moved from Bungie to 343 Industries. Fans shouldn’t let that switch worry them however, as Joystiq’s review assures it is a “decadent show of strength” for the series that lives up to its predecessors in single player, co-op and multiplayer. A new co-op mode that’s updated weekly will also probably help find some allies instead of foul-mouthed adversaries should you choose to head online. There’s a trailer after the break, but we’re pretty sure you already know if this is the game for you.

Bell gearing up for November 15th HTC 8X release

Windows Phone fans in the Great White North shouldn’t have to wait long to get their hands on HTC’s latest piece of kit — a internal Bell document obtained by MobileSyrup pegs the 8X for a November 15th launch. The reported Canadian launch date trails T-Mobile’s availability by a mere day, noting that pre-ordered devices could ship out as early as November 9th. Not too surprising, considering the phone just skipped through the FCC with support for the entire north American continent. No word on pricing, but the page’s listed specs nicely match the brightly colored 4.3-inch, 1.5GHz dual-core slab we reviewed. Not a Bell customer? Don’t worry — MobileSyrup is hearing murmurs that the same date applies to Rogers, as well.

Ceton Echo Windows Media Center Extender pre-orders are live, ship November 30th for $179
The newest option for Windows Media Center users is nearly here, as Ceton’s Echo extender has been listed for pre-order at Newegg. That’s been possible with other extenders — especially Microsoft’s own Xbox 360 console — but the Echo claims its advantage is being purpose built to do the job with less noise and power consumption, plus support for features like DTS surround sound. We’ll be reviewing it as soon as the software is final, early adopters that are ready to jump but missed the beta offer can snag one at the link below — the first shipments are scheduled to go out November 30th.

MG Android gaming handheld now available to pre-order for $150, ships early November
When we first laid eyes on the MG, it was an ambitious effort that hoped to bring Android 4.0-powered gaming to the casual masses through the hit-and-miss world of crowd funding. Though its Kickstarter efforts were a bust, its creators have managed to get this project off of the ground and are now accepting discounted pre-orders at $ 150 until November 4th — after that, the price will climb to a full $ 170. All pre-orders are expected to ship during the second week of November. As a refresher, the MG features a 4-inch WVGA display, a 1GHz Cortex A5 processor, a 1.3-megapixel front-facing camera, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal storage and an 8GB microSD card. It’ll also accommodate up to 64GB cards, should you ever hit a wall. Sporting a design that’s reminiscent of the Tapwave Zodiac, the MG will ship pre-loaded with several “freemium” titles and will have access to Google Play’s massive library of games. So, if you’re looking to wean your younger sibling off of your high-end smartphone, the MG could be the stocking stuffer that gets the job done this holiday season.

Bell may get Samsung Galaxy Rugby LTE on November 1st, give Canadians rough and tumble 4G
Americans won’t get to keep the Galaxy Rugby Pro all to themselves. As long as internal documents gleaned by MobileSyrup prove true, Bell should be carrying Samsung’s ruggedized 4G phone as the Galaxy Rugby LTE on November 1st. Other than the name change, it’s likely to be a match for the AT&T version down to the very wide frequency support we saw at the FCC, when it appeared as the SGH-i547. You’re looking at a modest 4-inch screen, 768MB of RAM and 5-megapixel rear camera, but also a quick 1.5GHz dual-core processor, Android 4.0 and that dust- and waterproof body. Pricing is an unknown, although the partly toned-down features imply that the Galaxy Rugby LTE will skew well below the $ 160 contract price for a Galaxy S III on Bell’s network.

Our furious feathered friends are assuming the likenesses of characters from the epic saga, with the trusty Red Bird taking on Luke Skywalker’s role. It wouldn’t be the Rebel Alliance without a dark side to fight, which is where the Pigs fit into the storyline; even the music and levels for gravity-based play will hark back to the film franchise. In addition to the software, details of related merchandise have also been uncovered, including table games, toys and costumes. The game is out on November 8th for iOS, Android and computers, and if it follows the original storyline, we wonder how Red Bird’s going to feel about his porcine family history.

Supplies are expected to be limited, so you’d be wise to get up entirely too early if you’re hoping to guarantee yourself a unit.
