Iconia W3 tablet live on Acer's Finnish website, confirms 8.1 inches of Windows 8 Pro

Info about the Iconia W3 Windows 8 tablet has already slipped out a few times, and now this 8.1-incher is live on Acer’s Finnish website. While there’s no mention of price or availability, the specifications list matches what’s already been leaked. You’re looking at Windows 8 Pro running atop an Intel Atom Z2760 CPU, aided by 2GB of RAM. Other features include a 1,280 x 768 touchscreen, an eight-hour battery, up to 64GB of storage, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. Port lovers will be pleased to find micro-HDMI and micro-USB hookups onboard, as well as a microSD slot. Microsoft Word comes pre-installed, but there’s no concrete info about the optional full-size keyboard dock — other than that it exists, anyway. It’ll likely be closer to June when we’ll be staring at it in the flesh, so you’ll have to settle for the info at the source link for now.

Acer Iconia W3 8-inch Windows 8 tablet quietly gets official

Acer’s Iconia W3, the first 8-inch Windows 8 tablet, has quietly cropped up at the company’s site, confirming the smaller slate and promising a full eight hours of runtime. Acer confirms 10-inch Iconia A3 tablet, wants to sell 10 million slates this year

Acer confirms 10inch Iconia A3 tablet, wants to sell 10 million slates this year

Acer’s senior VP Scott Lin recently confirmed that a new 10-inch Iconia A3 tablet will arrive this summer and and was quick to include it in some very ambitious sales plans. The device (not pictured) has yet to be priced or spec’d (or seen) yet, but Lin hopes that it’ll make up some of the 10 million slates the company’s looking to sell in 2013. He also announced a refresh for the $ 150 Iconia B1 this summer with a dual-core CPU, updated design and 1GB of ram, and said that 1.5 million units of that model have shipped so far this year. The company would like to move another 1.5 million by year’s end along with 5 million of the recently announced 8-inch Iconia A1 tabs and 2 million Iconia A3s to make up the balance. Considering that competitor Asus sold 3 million tablets in Q1 and has the hit Nexus 7 to peddle, it seems a lofty goal for Acer — especially since it only reluctantly leaped into tablets not so long ago.

Acer launches 16GB Iconia B1 Android tablet for €139

DNP EMBARGO Acer outs 16GB Iconia B1A71 a lowend Android slate for &euro139

Acer’s low-end Iconia B1-A71 Android tablet made its debut at CES 2013, packing a dual-core 1.2GHz Mediatek processor and 8GB of internal storage. A few months later here at MWC, the company is introducing a 16GB model of the 7-inch Jelly Bean slate, and it’s on sale immediately for €139 (compared to €119 for the 8GB version). The higher storage capacity is the real story here; otherwise, you’re looking at the same 1,024 x 600 display, 0.3-megapixel camera and lightweight plastic build. Like the version announced at CES, the B1 is available in Africa, Europe and the Middle East but not North America. Cruise past the break for the press release.

How would you change Acer’s Iconia Tab a700?

How would you change Acers Iconia Tab a700

When we handed Acer’s Iconia Tab to our tame tablet reviewer, they were bewildered by its 1,920 x 1,200 display. While it may have been easy to use, quick and lovely to look at, it was also a bit on the hefty side, with its meager battery not helping. So then, six months down the line, we’re asking you to sound off about what you liked and loathed about this device, because we’re fairly sure the Acers of this world are listening.

Acer Iconia W700 review: a Core i5 Windows 8 slate that doesn’t skimp on battery life

Acer Iconia W700 review a Core i5 Windows 8 slate that doesn't skimp on battery life

Until PC makers figure out what consumers want in their Windows 8 PCs, they’ll be throwing different designs at the proverbial wall to see what sticks. One thing’s for sure, though: laptop / tablet hybrids have already made it. So far, we’ve seen a mix of models, some with low-power Atom processors, and others with laptop-grade Core i5 CPUs inside. Basically, a choice between amazing horsepower and long battery life.

In Acer’s lineup, specifically, we’ve already had a chance to play with the Iconia W510, an Atom-powered device with a keyboard dock. Now we’re taking a look at the Iconia W700 ($ 800 and up), an 11-inch tablet that’s essentially an Ultrabook with no keyboard attached. Based on that brief summary you’d think it had the same form factor as the smaller W510, but you’d be wrong. Whereas the W510 has a keyboard dock with a built-in battery, the W700 has a cradle with a modular kickstand you can use you to prop up the tablet in landscape or portrait mode. There’s no battery inside the dock, and the keyboard is a standalone product; you’ll have to pack it separately if you decide you need it on a trip. So is there any advantage to having a design with so many different pieces? And how does that Core i5 processor fare, anyway? Let’s see.

Acer’s Windows 8-based Iconia W510 tablet hits the FCC, ready for November launch

DNP Acer W510 hits the FCC, ready for November launch

Now that we’ve taken a look at the Acer Iconia W510, it’s heartening to see it finally hit the FCC. The documentation doesn’t tell us much we don’t already know about the Windows 8 tablet, though it’s interesting to note it packs a 7300mAh battery, which will hopefully lead to that promised nine-hour battery life. As a quick refresher, the W510 packs a Clover Trail-based Atom processor, 2GB of RAM, a 10.1-inch display, and will cost roughly $ 500 for the 32GB SSD model. The timing of the FCC listing does seem to point to Acer actually hitting that November 9th launch date, so keep your fingers tiles crossed.

Acer Iconia A510 Olympic Tab to launch in UK next month

Acer Iconia A510 Olympic Tab to launch in UK next month

Acer has been known to celebrate the Olympic Games with special-edition tech, so we weren’t exactly surprised when the company launched a festive version of the Iconia Tab A510 this April in anticipation of the Summer Games in London. Now that the event is just two months away, the Tab is preparing to make its UK debut. According to the Inquirer
, it will be available through Carphone Warehouse in June. To jog your memory, this version has the same specs as the original Iconia Tab A510, including a 10.1-inch IPS display, Android Ice Cream Sandwich and a 1.3GHz quad-core Tegra 3 CPU. There’s also the same 5-megapixel camera and 32GB of onboard storage. The main difference, of course, is that this version sports an engraving of the five Olympic rings, and Acer also pre-loads a trial of Eurosport channels so users can get coverage during the Games. When the Iconia A510 Olympic Tab launches next month, it will reportedly go for £350 (about $ 552) without a SIM.

Acer releases app to hurry the ICS-ification of your Iconia A500 (video)

Patience, they say, is a virtue. Try telling that to a tech-savvy tablet owner, whose friend already got an ICS update. Acer started pushing out an Android 4 update to lucky Iconia 500 owners earlier in the week, but for those who’ve yet to receive it, all is not lost. The tablet maker has taken the unusual step of releasing an app dedicated to getting you the upgrade asap. Can’t wait a moment longer? Point your slate at the Play store and search for “Acer” and then simply look for the free Iconia Tab Update Enhancement app. Virtues are overrated anyway.

Some Iconia Tab A500s getting Ice Cream Sandwich early, Acer Ring is MIA

Last week, Acer announced that Ice Cream Sandwich would make its way to Iconia Tabs A100 and A500 in Canada and the US starting April 27th, but Phone Arena reports that some owners of the 10.1-inch A500 are getting the option to update a day ahead of schedule. If you’re one of the lucky few to be in on the early upgrade, you should be ready to rock with Android 4.0.3 after a 30-minute install. The one potential downside to getting ICS ahead of time? You’ll have to wait for the Acer Ring hub, which didn’t make the cut for this update.

Acer Iconia Tab A501 with HSPA+ hits AT&T on September 18th: $330 on contract

As promised, the Acer Iconia Tab A501 is hitting AT&T just before summer draws to an official close. The carrier just announced it’ll start selling the 16GB model next Sunday, September 18th for $ 480 — or $ 330 with a two-year contract. When we first heard about this way back in March, we knew it would be a “4G” device, and today AT&T clarified that this means HSPA+, not LTE, so sorry to burst anyone’s bubble. Even so, five months after the A500 went on sale it remains one of a select few slates with a full-sized USB port, so there’s that to consider if you’re still on the fence about getting a tablet. As planned, it’ll ship with Android 3.0, and an Acer rep confirms 3.1 is coming via an over-the-air update, though she couldn’t say when, exactly, that’ll happen. You can sign up for a monthly plan, if you so choose, though you can also pay as you go, with $ 15 getting you 250MB and $ 25 expanding your allowance to 2GB. Customers who commit to two-year agreements will have the same choices, to be honest, except they’ll also have to contend with overage fees — $ 10 per gigabyte or $ 15 per 250MB, depending on the plan.
