Venture capitalist Jim Breyer is giving up his seat on Facebook’s board in June, which he’s held since April 2005. The split is amicable, and stems from his desire to concentrate on his new board seat with the Harvard University Corporation Board. Breyer joined the Facebook board after his venture firm Accel became one of Facebook’s earliest investors, leading its $ 12.7 million Series A.

Cisco Exits the Consumer Market, Sells Linksys To Belkin
Krystalo writes “Belkin on Thursday announced plans to acquire Cisco’s Home Networking Business Unit, including its products, technology, employees, and even the well-known Linksys brand. Belkin says it plans to maintain the Linksys brand and will offer support for Linksys products as part of the transaction, financial details for which were not disclosed. This should be a relatively smooth transition that won’t affect current customers: Belkin says it will honor all valid warranties for current and future Linksys products. After the transaction closes, Belkin will account for approximately 30 percent of the US retail home and small business networking market.”

Alan Cox Exits Intel, Linux Development
judgecorp writes “Linux kernel developer Alan Cox has left Intel and Linux development after slamming the Fedora 18 distribution. He made the announcement on Google+ and promised that he had not fallen out with Linus Torvalds, and would finish up all outstanding work.” Also at Live Mint, which calls Cox’s resignation notice a “welcome change from the sterility, plain dishonesty of CEO departure statements.” Cox says in that statement that he’s leaving “for a bit,” and “I may be back at some point in the future – who knows.”

Tmura: The Non-Profit that Uses Israeli Startup Exits to Do Good
Tmura, an Israeli non-profit, is closing on its 10-year anniversary. In a decade’s worth of work it has contributed a whopping $ 6.3M+ to educational programs.
The extraordinary amount isn’t the result of efficient fundraising, rather, of having been allotted small amounts of options by early-stage startups. Tmura then exercises these options when the startups see a liquidation event.
Out of a portfolio of 240 companies, 40 saw exits, the most recent of which XtremIO’s acquisition by EMC netted Tmura $ 450,000.

Windows Phone exec exits five months after being poached from Samsung
Microsoft’s Gavin Kim was a high-profile capture for Redmond, as it poached the former Samsung and Motorola exec to bolster its Windows Phone marketing team. Now, just five months into the job, he’s departing after marshaling the “Smoked by Windows Phone” campaign into the world. The company wouldn’t go into specifics beyond saying that it was a personal decision to leave and Microsoft bears him no ill will — but then that’s what they always say. He’ll be replaced by Eugene Ho, who now has the job of continuing the burgeoning platform’s upward trajectory and winning around those European carriers who’ve greeted it with little more than apathy.

Fitocracy Finally Exits Private Beta, Celebrates With A New iOS App
It’s been a while since we’ve heard from the social fitness mavens at Fitocracy – they’ve been doing plenty of behind-the-scenes work, and now they’re ready to share the fruits of their labor. After spending over a year hunkered down in private beta mode, the RPG-esque exercise tracker and 500 Startups graduate has finally opened its doors to the general public.
Here’s their gist, if you haven’t heard it already — after a workout, you log all of your exercises and receive points for them. Earning enough points will cause you to level up, while earning points in certain exercises unlocks new achievements. The service also sports quests for the particularly motivated, along with a strong social component to get users commiserating and sharing workout tips.
In short, it aims to rewire the way users think about exercise, and Fitocracy CEO Brian Wang tells me the formula has struck a chord with nearly 300,000 users.

DARPA director exits agency for Google, assumes mysterious role
Not even the federal government’s factory of scifi dreams can hold off the likes of Google’s recruiters. According to Wired, Regina Dugan, DARPA’s current director, will be moving on from the Department of Defense’s fantastical research arm for an unspecified “senior executive position” with the folks from Mountain View. Dugan’s served in her role for the past three years, winning over the likes of the Pentagon by shifting her agency’s focus from out-there R&D experiments to more practical military applications, while also ruffling a few feathers with her brazen statements. No word was given on when exactly she’ll officially join the search giant’s ranks other than a vague mention of “sometime in the next few weeks.” Look out Uncle Sam, the Google brain drain’s got its sights set on you. Now, no government sector is safe.
