EA Responds To Its Appearance In the ‘Worst Company In America’ Poll
beerdragoon writes “Electronic Arts CEO Peter Moore has responded to the company’s appearance in the finals of the Consumerist’s Worst Company In America poll. Moore accepts some responsibility for some of EA’s past failings: ‘I’ll be the first to admit that we’ve made plenty of mistakes. These include server shut downs too early, games that didn’t meet expectations, missteps on new pricing models and most recently, severely fumbling the launch of SimCity. We owe gamers better performance than this.’ However, he ignores or contests many of the common complaints about the company — issues that earned it a spot in the finals for the second year in a row. Quoting: ‘Many continue to claim the Always-On function in SimCity is a DRM scheme. It’s not. People still want to argue about it. We can’t be any clearer – it’s not. Period. … Some people think that free-to-play games and micro-transactions are a pox on gaming. Tens of millions more are playing and loving those games.”

Samsung Galaxy S II Plus makes a random appearance at CeBIT 2013, we go hands-on
As ubiquitous as Samsung’s Galaxy S II is, we imagined that its influence would wane in the face of the S III and whatever we see in a week’s time. The Korean behemoth has other ideas, once again refreshing the former flagship to ensure it’ll remain on store shelves as an increasingly lower-end option. Inside you’ve got a 1.2GHz dual-core Broadcom CPU, 1GB RAM and Android 4.1.2 (Jelly Bean). There’s also a 4.3-inch WVGA (800 x 480) display, 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and a 2-megapixel lens up top, as well as GSM and HSPA+ support. How does it compare to the original? Well, it fel a lot more responsive and snappy than when we handled the Galaxy S II last, but part of that is likely due to the new Android Jelly Bean OS’ buttery-smooth scrolling. Otherwise, it handled and behaved much like Samsung’s aging ‘droid hit. The case has now been sanded-down to reflect the company’s more natural, Galaxy S III-based design cues, so if you fancy a short game of spot the difference, you can check out the gallery.

Galaxy Note II KIRF edition makes a quick appearance, shows no remorse
It was only a matter of time before we’d see this one, right? As has been the case with many, many other gadgets, Samsung’s Galaxy Note II is the latest one to join the “Keepin’ it Real Fake” revolution. Formally dubbed Star S7180, this phablet clone, as you can imagine, doesn’t come even close to matching the genuine Note II’s mighty spec sheet, with this 5.5-inch KIRF device said to be only boasting a dual-core MT6577 CPU with 1GB RAM, 4GB of internal storage and an 8-megapixel cam on the back — but, hey, at least there’s some Jelly Bean to go with that. According to GizChina, you’ll have to shell out about $ 150 for the Star S7180, which, all in all, isn’t too bad a deal — that’s if you don’t mind taking the faux route, of course. At any rate, you’ll find additional eye candy after the break, and, judging by the looks, it may just be Mr. Blurrycam’s best work yet.

ASUS Padfone 2 makes an appearance in new video
Those looking forward to the ASUS Padfone 2 have likely been very frustrated by the fact that we haven’t heard too many details about the device. There have been leaks here and there, but for the most part, there hasn’t really been anything too significant. The folks at Bloomberg were luckily enough to briefly go
Sorry, Leno: Mark Zuckerberg Makes First Late-Night Talk Show Appearance — On Russian TV
Mark Zuckerberg is really going whole hog on this Russia thing.
The Facebook CEO is currently on a visit to Russia as part of a campaign to expand his super-popular social network there. As part of his visit, he’s checked out Red Square, met with prime minister Dmitry Medvedev.
And, in a remarkable show of “being a good sport,” Zuckerberg also appeared as a guest on Evening Urgant, a late-night show that is comparable to the United States’ Late Show With David Letterman or The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.

Galaxy Note II makes first FCC appearance, variant lacks US-friendly LTE bands
Samsung pegged its new Note for an October launch in Europe and Asia, in typical FCC fashion, it’s passed through those wireless testing labs ahead of its arrival in stores around the world. For US readers, there’s a severe lack of compatible US LTE bands on this Galaxy Note II, which suggests this is a global model we’re dealing with, likely to connect with other 4G networks — there’s a whole lot of them out there. Aside from that, there’s a typical selection of 850/1900 GSM/GPRS/EDGE and 850 WCDMA/HSPA radios inside this GT-N7105 model. However, we’re expecting another Note II iteration — packing friendlier LTE frequencies — will make an appearance at the FCC pretty soon.

Raspberry Pi Model A Makes First Appearance
An anonymous reader writes “It’s easy to forget that the Raspberry Pi currently shipping is the more expensive model of the board. It is actually called the Model B as it sports more features than the $ 25 Model A. The main differences include a lack of an Ethernet port and the associated networking chip, as well as the presence of only being one USB port instead of two. There was originally going to be less memory on the Model A (128MB instead of 256MB), but the Raspberry Pi Foundation managed to make enough cost savings during a redesign to increase the amount to 256MB on the cheaper version. With all the focus being on the Model B, we haven’t actually seen the (near) final Model A board yet. But that changes today, as Eben Upton has just shown off the $ 25 board.”

Alternative Wii U controller design makes brief appearance on Twitter, goes into hiding
Excited for Nintendo’s new tablet-esque controller? So are the kids in TT Games’ QA department. An over-excited tester tweeted out an image of a slightly different Wii U slab than the one we laid hands on at E3 2011, teasing “look we what we have at work!” Answering the call does indeed reveal something worth looking at — a somewhat wider looking Wii U slate featuring two full-sized analog sticks (as opposed to 3DS-like circle pads), a pair of unmarked button-like squares, and a new starboard home for the controller’s plus and minus buttons.
The tweet was summarily pulled, of course, but not before our friends at Joystiq nabbed a screenshot. Naturally, the rumor mill started right up, churning out speculation of developer specific slabs, early prototypes and late redesigns. The truth? We’ll probably need to wait until E3 to find out, but we reached out to Nintendo for a comment all the same. We’ll let you know if we hear anything more than the usual “Nintendo doesn’t comment on rumors and speculation” line.

Well, what’s up with this, Verizon? Oops: Droid 4 makes an early appearance in Best Buy promo
With its backlit keys and shaved corners, it could only be the Droid 4 leading the pack of phones in this Best Buy promo shot. The slider hasn’t yet reached the shop floor, but that hasn’t stopped it from promoting the big box retailer’s Rewards Zone offers. While Verizon has already let a festively-colored Droid RAZR and a pair of Xoom 2 Xyboard tablets out of the gates this winter, keyboard hunters have been left out in the cold. Hopefully, this snafu will translate into a release very soon.

Microsoft Xbox 360 successor rumored to arrive in 2012, make an appearance at CES?
Go get the salt… it’s Xbox rumor time! Today, we’re hearing that Microsoft’s Xbox 360 successor may be hitting stores in late 2012, according to Edge, with an initial announcement possibly to come at CES. Next December would be a couple years shy of the 10-year time frame Microsoft reps have quoted for the 360′s life cycle in the past, and we haven’t heard much about this rumored CES announcement until now, so we’re not inclined to take either of these reports too seriously. We don’t have long to wait until that massive consumer electronics gathering in Vegas at this point, though, so it’s only a matter of time before the rumor mills begin shifting their launch expectations to 2013.

Sony’s new internet TV box, projector and Blu-ray player make an appearance at IFA
They didn’t earn highlights during Sony’s IFA 2011 keynote, but it did slip out a few more pieces of home theater hardware that are more likely to end up in your living room than its outlandish 3D helmet. The SMP-N200 replaces the earlier Netbox that debuted last year with a refreshed design and support for HD and 3D. Unsurprisingly, this Blu-ray player (without the Blu-ray) also supports DLNA “throwing” of content, making it a natural Apple TV-style tie-in for the Tablet S and Tablet P once they launch. Moving on, the VPL-VW95ES is a proper replacement for last year’s VPL-VW90ES that we’ll probably get more properly acquainted with later this week at CEDIA. For 2011 it’s been refreshed with 3D conversion capabilities, an integrated 3D emitter to sync the glasses and the ability to set and memorize different lens positions to switch seamlessly between 16:9 and ultrawidescreen projecting. Finally, the BDP-S185 Blu-ray player was announced, with compact size and power consumption that Sony claims is 47 percent less than the previous year’s models as its most notable features. All should start shipping in October, no specific word on pricing yet.
