Iconia W3 tablet live on Acer's Finnish website, confirms 8.1 inches of Windows 8 Pro

Info about the Iconia W3 Windows 8 tablet has already slipped out a few times, and now this 8.1-incher is live on Acer’s Finnish website. While there’s no mention of price or availability, the specifications list matches what’s already been leaked. You’re looking at Windows 8 Pro running atop an Intel Atom Z2760 CPU, aided by 2GB of RAM. Other features include a 1,280 x 768 touchscreen, an eight-hour battery, up to 64GB of storage, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth 4.0. Port lovers will be pleased to find micro-HDMI and micro-USB hookups onboard, as well as a microSD slot. Microsoft Word comes pre-installed, but there’s no concrete info about the optional full-size keyboard dock — other than that it exists, anyway. It’ll likely be closer to June when we’ll be staring at it in the flesh, so you’ll have to settle for the info at the source link for now.

When we handed Acer’s Iconia Tab to our tame tablet reviewer, they were bewildered by its 1,920 x 1,200 display. While it may have been easy to use, quick and lovely to look at, it was also a bit on the hefty side, with its meager battery not helping. So then, six months down the line, we’re asking you to sound off about what you liked and loathed about this device, because we’re fairly sure the Acers of this world are listening.

As a brand, Acer doesn’t quite yet resonate in the mobile space. After all, it took the company the better part of a year to release the CloudMobile. But from the looks of these (very clear) leaks captured on Chinese site VR-Zone, it seems Acer may be prepping a mid-range device for that market. Allegedly dubbed the V360, the handset appears to be running Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean which, if true, would be a first for the OEM. It’s not clear if the UI is skinned, but if its previous work on the CloudMobile’s UX is any indication, expect this one to be very lightly skinned. Apart from that, there are a handful of unverified specs floating about, like a 4.5-inch qHD display, unknown dual-core processor clocked at 1GHz, five-megapixel camera and DTS sound (as indicated by backplate branding). As for the possible release and pricing for this mystery device, well, that’s very much up in the air. Acer would first have to confirm its existence before we move on to those market realities.

DNP Acer W510 hits the FCC, ready for November launch

Now that we’ve taken a look at the Acer Iconia W510, it’s heartening to see it finally hit the FCC. The documentation doesn’t tell us much we don’t already know about the Windows 8 tablet, though it’s interesting to note it packs a 7300mAh battery, which will hopefully lead to that promised nine-hour battery life. As a quick refresher, the W510 packs a Clover Trail-based Atom processor, 2GB of RAM, a 10.1-inch display, and will cost roughly $ 500 for the 32GB SSD model. The timing of the FCC listing does seem to point to Acer actually hitting that November 9th launch date, so keep your fingers tiles crossed.

Acer executives have criticized Microsoft’s decision to build it’s own tablet in the past, but now the firm’s CEO has offered Redmond a more direct warning. “We have said [to Microsoft] think it over,” Acer CEO JT Wang told the Financial Times. “Think Twice. It will create a huge negative impact for the ecosystem and other brands may take a negative reaction.” Microsoft has acknowledged Surface’s potential to frustrate its OEM partners, telling the Security and Exchange Commission that competing directly with manufactures might “affect their commitment” to the firm’s platform. Not only does Wang agree with this admission, he seems worried that Microsoft will cause this damage for nothing. “It is not something you are good at,” he continued, “so please think twice.” Polite, but a bit bold. Then again, Acer has never been shy about telling Microsoft exactly what it thinks.

Acer’s first venture into Windows Phone arrives in France as the Allegro

Remember the Acer W4? After seeing it at IFA 2011, it seems that it’s finally ready to make some first impressions, and its blind date is with France. Known officially as the Allegro, Acer’s inaugural Windows Phone isn’t going over the top in the spec department: it has a 3.6-inch WVGA (800 x 480) display, 1GHz single-core Qualcomm MSM8255 CPU, 8GB internal storage, 5MP rear camera with LED flash and a 1,300mAh battery. However, a unique addition to this €299 ($ 425) device is a feature called Fast Charge, which allows the Allegro to get juiced up to 2.5 times faster than the rest of the company’s lineup. Expect the device to land in France in mid-November with two color options — white and dark blue iceberg. Just make sure, Acer, to walk your date all the way back home from dinner.
